Liverpool tipped to sign €365,000-a-week ”problem” from Champions League club

Liverpool and their wage bill will definitely be a huge factor this summer.

According to multiple reports, the club will have up to £200million for transfers when the window opens. Liverpool have planned major changes to the squad ahead of next season. But any transfer decisions will be taken based on the futures of current first team stars. Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract in the summer.

The trio have been huge factors in the club’s success this season. All three could leave for free at the end of the season. Depending on which of these players stay or leave Anfield, Liverpool could have more funds for signings. Salah and Van Dijk are currently the top two earners at the club.

It has been confirmed that Liverpool will be looking to strengthen key areas of the squad. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the reds will sign a new defender this summer. With the possible departures of Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the club would need new faces as replacements. Multiple reports have also revealed that adding a striker is on Liverpool’s list. The reds have made contact with Alexander Isak’s representatives ahead of a possible summer transfer.

Arne Slot has also asked for reinforcements in attack. The Liverpool boss wants new players ahead of next season. Slot is reportedly not a fan of the current options outside Mohamed Salah. Liverpool could make Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez available for sale in the upcoming window.

Midfield is another area Slot is keen on improving. According to Caught Offside, the reds have revived their interest in Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong. The midfielder is out of contract next year, with the Spanish side eager to tie him down long-term. However, in order to do that they may force de Jong to take a pay cut. Barcelona’s financial difficulties will be an obstacle if they choose to extend his current deal worth €365,000-a-week. De Jong has now become a problem at the club, and Barcelona have to make a decision if they want to offload him this summer.

Can reds afford Frenkie de Jong?

€365,000-a-week would make de Jong automatically one of the highest earners at Anfield. Liverpool already have big contracts on their hands, and would not like a repeat next season. The reds will no doubt ask the 27-year old to reduce his wages before they make any offer. But for a player of de Jong’s quality, a fee or around £33.5million would be an absolute bargain.
