Liverpool are on the verge of winning the Premier League title, but work is underway to strengthen the squad in the summer. Arne Slot wants to build from a position of strength and is pushing the club for significant additions in several areas of the squad.
The Reds manager is primarily interested in having a fresh-looking attack next season and is pushing the club to bring in several forwards, including a number 9.
However, Liverpool want to bring in a top centre-back in the next window, and could be forced to bring in one more if Ibrahima Konate leaves in the summer.
The Merseyside giants have been tracking several defenders ahead of the next window, but it has been claimed that they have fallen behind in the race for their number one target.

Liverpool fall behind Premier League rivals in race for centre-back

Dean Huijsen has been Liverpool’s top centre-back target this summer, and the club have been keen to take him to Anfield ahead of next season.
A £50m release clause makes it a straightforward deal, but it has been claimed that the Reds are more or less out of the race to sign the centre-back.
According to Spanish journalist Eduardo Burgos, Chelsea have taken a decisive lead in the pursuit of the centre-back in the upcoming transfer window.
The Blues have held talks with his representatives and are now confident of getting a deal done to take him to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
No deal has been agreed yet, but Chelsea are ahead in the race to sign Huijsen from Bournemouth in the next window.
It would be a blow for Liverpool if the Spaniard ends up at Chelsea, as he has been at the top of their wishlist for some time.
