Liverpool suffer blow in major transfer pursuit

Liverpool are ramping up their efforts to make sure that they are in a good position to bring in centre-back reinforcements in the summer transfer window.

The Reds have carried out due diligence on a potential centre-back signing for the winter window but the major arrivals are only expected to happen at the end of the season.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, Nottingham Forest’s Murillo and Sevilla’s Loic Bade are some of the major targets Liverpool have on their radar but it seems they are looking at other players as well.

The Reds have not ruled out signing a more experienced option as well who could come in and add instant quality to their squad without burning a hole in their transfer budget.

Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is one of the players Liverpool are tracking as he is a quality centre-back who is set to be available on a free transfer next summer.

However, the Reds will face severe competition from other clubs in the Premier League as several other sides have made proactive moves on the player already.

A Bundesliga winner at Bayer Leverkusen who is not expected to sign a new deal, Tah is likely to be in demand at the end of the season.

Bayern Munich missed out on signing him last summer but there is now a carousel of Premier League clubs who are pushing to take him to England at the end of the campaign.

According to TBR Football, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham are all involved in discussions to sign the 28-year-old defender on a free transfer in the summer.

The trio of Premier League clubs have touched base with his agents to discuss a potential move to England at the end of the season.

Tah will start getting formal offers on his table from January when he will be free to hold talks with clubs outside Germany.

Two more Premier League clubs in Aston Villa and Newcastle United are also interested in getting their hands on the centre-back next summer.

Tah is also attracting interest from several big names in the continent where Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Inter Milan have their eyes on him.

Saudi Pro League clubs are also keeping tabs on the centre-back but he would prefer to stay in Europe if he leaves Leverkusen at the end of the season.

Liverpool still have their eyes on him but competition for his signature is set to be more than they anticipated as clubs start positioning themselves in the coming months.
