Liverpool stun Newcastle United with shock swoop for England star

Liverpool have already shown that they are not worried about splashing big money in the upcoming summer transfer window. They are now probing to snare an England star away from Newcastle United ahead of the 2025/26 season as part of their plans.

A potential club-record deal worth £113m for Florian Wirtz is a clear sign of the ambition Liverpool want to show in the summer market, and they are not keen to stop there.

Jeremie Frimpong is set to arrive for a fee of £30m, and the club will likely fork out more than £40m for Bournemouth’s sensational left-back Milos Kerkez this summer.

However, the club have an appetite to spend more and they are now preparing to snare an England star away from Newcastle in the upcoming window.

The Reds rekindle interest in England star at Newcastle

Anthony Gordon was a whisker away from Liverpool last summer when Newcastle backed out of a deal to sell him to the Merseyside giants at the last minute.

The winger remains keen on the switch, and Liverpool are ready to rekindle their interest in the England forward in the upcoming transfer window.

Experienced scout Mick Brown revealed that Gordon remains one of the top targets for Liverpool, and the Wirtz deal will have no bearing on their interest in the England star.

“Anthony Gordon is still on their radar”, Brown told Football Insider.

“He’s been one of the top names for Liverpool for a while.

“He’s a Liverpool lad, was at Everton before, and they know him very well.

“They’ve been talking about Wirtz as well, and it looks like that deal is going to happen, and they’re getting closer to an agreement there.

“But that isn’t going to stop them having a look at Gordon.

“They’ve got a few players there, Diaz, Gakpo, Nunez, and more who could leave, and those sales would open to door for Gordon to come in.

“If they keep those players, they won’t need both Gordon and Wirtz.

“But if they don’t, Gordon is a player they’re considering to come in as a direct replacement for the current attacking options, who Slot hasn’t been convinced on.”

Newcastle do not want to sell one of their best players, but an £80m offer from Liverpool could test their resolve this summer.
