A proposed £30m transfer that would’ve seen a Liverpool star make a shock switch to Merseyside rivals Everton has collapsed in dramatic fashion. The deal has now reportedly broken down as the Toffees are now considering signing a cheaper alternative from the Championship.
It has been more than three decades since a player joined Everton from Liverpool in 1992, when Gary Ablett switched allegiances from red to blue.
Abel Xavier was the last player to cross the Stanley Park divide when he left Everton to join Liverpool in 2002, and since then, no star has crossed the bridge between these two Merseyside clubs.
And it seems we would need to wait a few more years for another such transfer, as Everton have ended their pursuit of Liverpool academy star in the ongoing window.

Everton end their interest in Liverpool star Ben Doak

Ben Doak had a fruitful loan spell at Middlesbrough and is expected to move on from Liverpool in the ongoing transfer window.
The Reds are keen to bring in wide forwards, and it appears that while they rate Doak, the 19-year-old winger is unlikely to get much game time on Merseyside.
Everton have shown interest in the winger, and the Toffees have been prepared to offer as much as £20m for the young winger.
However, Liverpool want as much as £30m, and according to TEAMTalk, Everton have turned to a cheaper alternative.
Doak is unlikely to end up at Everton this summer as the Toffees are now interested in West Brom winger Tom Fellows.
The 21-year-old Championship winger will leave West Brom amid interest from the Premier League, and Everton are keen to sign him.
He is likely to cost around £10m, and Everton are prepared to sign Fellows instead of Doak this summer.
