Liverpool are planning to be more aggressive in the January transfer window and learn from the mistakes they committed in the summer when they were slow to move for some priority targets.
The Merseyside giants want to bring in a defensive midfielder, which was a priority in the summer, in the January transfer window but they have plans to move on a few players as well.
Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo’s future at the club is under the scanner and the Reds are keen to sell him to part-fund the move for a new number 6.
Liverpool are also said to be ready to consider loan offers for young midfielder Tyler Morton who has been linked with a move to Leeds United ahead of the winter window.
However, Liverpool are on the verge of making a surprise decision on the future of a star player who could allowed to leave in January.
Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool is under the scanner
Liverpool signed Chiesa from Juventus towards the end of the window and the move was praised given his talent level and the low cost of the deal.
However, the winger has played 78 minutes of football across three appearances and has been out of action since before the October international break.
Arne Slot has already admitted that he is not sure when Chiesa will be fit enough to return and indicated that he is struggling to match the intensity of his teammates.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it, Liverpool are pondering over letting him leave Anfield in the winter transfer window.
It has been claimed that the Reds are toying with the idea of letting him return to Italy on loan for the rest of the season in January.
Liverpool are considering offering him a chance to play more football in Italy and take a call on his long-term future at the club in the summer.
Inter Milan, AC Milan and Roma are amongst the clubs who would be interested in Chiesa if he becomes available for a loan in the winter window.
Does Chiesa have a long-term future at Anfield?
Chiesa’s had a difficult European Championship last summer and Juventus were more than willing to move him on.
His career was already on the downward curve in the last couple of seasons in Italy due to injuries but Liverpool felt that he was a gamble worth taking given the potential the winger showed previously.
However, for now, it seems the gamble is not paying off and Slot is not impressed with the fitness levels of the player.
A loan move in January would be a temporary solution and an opportunity to let Chiesa play more football at least as he doesn’t look like breaking into the starting eleven at Liverpool any time soon.
But if things do not look up for him soon, Liverpool could have a decision to make on his long-term future at the club as soon as next summer.
