Liverpool faced their second loss of the season against the same team on Saturday. Crystal Palace have become a major challenge for the Reds as Oliver Glasner managed to one-up the Reds not just once but twice this season.
The first loss came in an FA Community Shield match as the Eagles fought their way to end the game 2-2. Unfortunately for the Reds, the Glaziers won in penalties, keeping the Shield in the capital.
Liverpool then went on to stay seven games unbeaten as Arne Slot was on the ninth cloud. However, bad luck struck when the Merseysiders made a trip to London to face Glasner’s men once again.
Ismaïla Sarr opened the scoresheet with a goal in the 9th minute. The Eagles had multiple chances throughout the match, which were deflected by Alisson Becker.
Federico Chiesa scored one back in the 87th minute as Slot was hoping for a regular turnaround. However, former Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah didn’t miss his chance to send Glasner home with three points.

Virgil van Dijk improvement comments

Skipper Virgil van Dijk was clearly not happy with the team’s performance as they lost twice to the same team. Glasner’s men are on a 10-game unbeaten run this season following their win at Selhurst Park.
“Disappointed in our performance. Disappointed in the loss, but especially the way we went about it. I think if we got a draw here, then we’ve already taken one point too much. That is the feeling that we have right now.”
“I don’t think there is any reason to worry, but we have to improve pretty quickly because obviously we play in Turkey on Tuesday. We have a very difficult game there as well, so we have to be ready.”
“It was the basics that we didn’t do well. Sometimes you can have these days. Hopefully, this is the only day this season that we do that. There is a reason they were 17, now 18, games unbeaten.”
“They are very difficult to break down, very disciplined, they defend deep, and they don’t mind that, and they have the quality on the break to hurt you. But it all started with ourselves.”
“We were sloppy in possession, didn’t win our second ball fight, and we created momentum for them. They could have been three or four up by half-time. We are lucky that we have, in my opinion, the best goalkeeper in the world to save us. If we had a draw, we had one point too much.”
