Liverpool are preparing a bid to beat Manchester United to the signature of Moises Caicedo.
The Anfield outfit is suffering through something of an injury crisis as the Reds battle without several injured stars.
Injuries have already been the theme of the season as poor midfield options led to successive draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace.
Followong the third game of the season, an embarrassing 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, a subplot has appeared in the shape of a transfer saga.
Liverpool trying to gazump Manchester United for Moises Caicedo
Last week, Liverpool’s interest in the 20-year-old was first reported by 90Min with United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona, Juventus and Atletico Madrid all keeping tabs on the midfielder.
Brighton reportedly don’t want to sell but money talks as does a player pushing for an exit.
The exciting update comes from journalist José Alberto Molestina, who claims that Liverpool are “preparing” a bid.
Posting on Twitter, he coupled his comments with a video of him reporting the story live on air for Studio Futbol.
Molestina said: “He [Caicedo] has a firm offer from Manchester United.
“Liverpool is preparing an offer. Also: Moises Caicedo doesn’t feel like [joining] United.”
Caicedo could be the perfect stop-gap solution to midfield injury crisis
Jurgen Klopp doesn’t sign players unless he believes the new arrival can be of long-term value to the club.
It’s why he waited so long to get Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, why he pounced at the perfect time to sign Luis Diaz and why Liverpool will do everything they can to sign Jude Bellingham.
Caicedo is just 20 but he already looks at home in the Premier League as he proved with his fine display in the 2-1 win over Brighton on the first day of the season.
However, unlike some of the players linked this summer, he is not just a player that can come in and fix this season’s issues but he could also be a long-term gem for Klopp.
The German has shown time and again that he is world-class at developing young talent and with injuries likely to play a key role in how this season pans out, signing Caicedo, who has only ever missed 26 days through injury.
