Liverpool are reportedly ready to smash their previous transfer record as they move for a Premier League star in a deal that could redefine their summer window. Talks are progressing, but sources say one key condition could make or break the potential blockbuster move.
The Premier League champions have already spent upwards of £180m on three players this summer, but still have at least two priority positions to sort out before the end of the transfer window.
Liverpool are almost certain to sign a centre-back due to Jarell Quansah’s impending departure and the continued question marks over the future of Ibrahima Konate at Anfield.
Marc Guehi is the player Liverpool are likely to sign to reinforce their defensive options ahead of next season, but the club’s biggest priority is to sign a striker.
Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak is the player they want, and there are suggestions, Liverpool are being encouraged to keep pursuing the forward.

Liverpool are prepared to smash their transfer record again this summer for Alexander Isak

Journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed that despite Newcastle’s insistence on not selling him, Liverpool believe they still have a chance to sign the striker.
He believes that until the forward signs a new deal, the Reds will believe they can get him this summer, and a deal is possible for around £120m as long as he refuses to sign on fresh terms with Newcastle.
“Liverpool are not being deterred, we’re not sure quite why that is, but they seem to think there’s a chink of light there”, Bailey told Rousing the Kop.
“Whilst this new contract hasn’t been signed, that will remain the case.
“Obviously the British record has been broken by Liverpool now, and the offer would have to be similar to get Isak out of Newcastle, but it is distinctly possible.
“I believe a deal could be done at £120-130m, but that would have to be on the back of him rejecting a contract offer. Liverpool are still doing work on other targets as well.”
Isak wants the move to Anfield
Newcastle do not want to sell him, and are in talks to offer him a new deal, which would make him the highest-paid player at the club.
However, noises coming out of the northeast suggest the striker is keen to join Liverpool if given a chance to leave Newcastle this summer.
The striker wants to join a team who are ready to compete for the top honours, and Newcastle’s failure to land some of their top targets since the end of last season shows, they are still some distance away from being one of the top dogs in the Premier League.
Liverpool’s interest has definitely turned his head, and a chance to play for the reigning champions could be too hard to ignore.
