Out of all positions in this Liverpool team, only one has been reliable this season.
When Arne Slot arrived, he immediately adopted this possession-based style. The team experienced a shift from the more transition type football under Jurgen Klopp. Slot also managed to incorporate aspects of Klopp’s style into his team. Liverpool have not really been able to rely on their attack outside Mohamed Salah. Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez have not really offered any impact in the team this season.
Slot has been able to count on his midfield for most of this campaign. His possession style has brought the best out of Ryan Gravenberch, who has arguably been the best midfielder in England this season. He has formed a formidable partnership with Alexis Mac Allister in the middle of the park. The duo have been able to control and dominate games this season.

Dominik Szoboszlai’s hardwork has often gone unnoticed this season. Slot has been able to use the attacking midfielder in a unique role where he has free roam all over the pitch and contributes to the attack. Szoboszlai’s workrate in midfield has been a good platform for the team to play off.
On the bench, Curtis Jones, Wataru Endo and Harvey Elliot have all played key roles. Jones’ versatility allows him to fulfil many roles. His performances this season have seen him establish himself in the England team. Elliot is an impact player who can change games. Slot always calls on Endo when Liverpool need to see out a game, and he delivers.
Heading into next season it looks like the reds will be in the market for a new midfielder. TuttoAtalanta say Liverpol are ready to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson. The Brazilian brings a more defensive profile to the team, and it looks likely that he will come in and compete with Gravenberch and Mac Allister. Liverpool will now have greater depth in midfield as they hope to challenge for trophies next season.
Ederson is valued around €60million by the Serie A side.
