Gary Neville pokes fun at Liverpool amidst Premier League uncertainty

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville - Liverpool.

Gary Neville has mocked Liverpool by suggesting that if they are handed the Premier League title then he will wear an asterisk on Sky Sports next season.

Sitting 25 points adrift of Manchester City atop the Premier League table, Liverpool is almost certain to take home the Premier League.

However, Gary Neville is never shy from witty remarks. Speaking with Sky Sports, Neville announced that he will look to ridicule the “asterisk” hanging next to Liverpool’s title should the season be ended prematurely due to the Coronavirus crisis.

Premier League - Liverpool.

“I think I’d have my little asterisk t-shirt printed, or a little asterisk badge for the season on Sky next season, just for a bit of fun”, said Neville.

Numerous other top divisions have awarded premature titles with France’s Ligue 1 offering their highest prize to Paris Saint-Germain who finished 12 points clear of challengers Marseille with a game in hand.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the Premier League at the moment, Neville also paid respects to Liverpool’s efforts.

Mohamed Salah - Liverpool.

“I think it would be ridiculous not to give Liverpool the league,” Neville continued.

“However, when you get to the bottom of the league, I think it would be equally ridiculous to relegate teams when it’s so close.

“Look, they deserve to win the league, they’re the best team in the league. And they will rightly I think at some point get awarded with the Premier League medal. But it won’t stop us having a little bit of a joke in the next 20 years.”

Asterisk or otherwise, I don’t think any Liverpool fans will be concerned when they see Jordan Henderson lifting their 19th league title.
