Liverpool now considering late swoop to sign French midfielder on a free transfer

Liverpool remain the only Premier League team yet to make a signing this summer, but that could soon change with multiple players potentially heading to Anfield.

On Tuesday, reports emerged that Liverpool are on the verge of signing Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, with plans to loan him out until Alisson Becker eventually leaves the club.

However, Liverpool’s transfer ambitions don’t stop there. The Reds are also keen on adding an outfield player to their squad alongside Mamardashvili.

Liverpool target Adrien Rabiot

According to a report from L’Equipe, Liverpool are considering a move for Adrien Rabiot, who is currently a free agent after leaving Juventus. The French publication also mentions that Manchester United had shown interest in the French international during his free agency but have since shifted their focus to other targets.

It appears that Manchester United are now pursuing Manuel Ugarte, with negotiations with PSG reportedly progressing well.

Rabiot, who has been described as “world-class” by L’Equipe, is eager to find a new club and continue his successful career, which includes winning five Ligue 1 titles and the Serie A title, among other honours.

While Liverpool only need to negotiate directly with the 29-year-old, they face competition from Inter Milan and Bayern Munich, both of whom are closely monitoring the situation. Given Rabiot’s status as one of the most sought-after free agents, it’s no surprise that several top clubs are interested.

Signing Rabiot would be a good step in the right direction

Liverpool initially targeted Martin Zubimendi to fill the no.6 role in midfield, but after Zubimendi decided to remain with Real Sociedad, Rabiot has emerged as a strong alternative.

The Saint-Maurice native has made 393 appearances in central midfield throughout his career, earning 48 caps for France and thriving at top European clubs like PSG and Juventus.

This is a situation worth watching closely, as Liverpool may look to bring in Rabiot to compete with Wataru Endo for a spot in the midfield.
