According to a report from Le10Sport, Liverpool are the most likely side to make a bid for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar this summer.
Last week, Julien Laurens broke the news for ESPN that Liverpool, Manchester United, Spurs and Arsenal are interested in Aouar.
GFFN, a well-known source for French football news, has claimed that Aouar has no intention of playing for Lyon again.
They reported on Twitter: “The player continues to have no intention of being part of Peter Bosz’s project – initially this was problematic for Lyon, but as they have virtually 0 offers on any other players & must raise they are resigned to selling. OL would like €25m inc. bonuses.”
Le10Sport reports that Lyon would like to recoup as much as €35million and you have to wonder if ESPN were fed news of interest from several English sides to spike the price.
Liverpool are said to be the team in pole position and interestingly, that the Reds don’t need to sell to buy the Frenchman.
If the Anfield outfit is the most likely to submit a bid to sign Aouar and the 23-year-old is refusing to play for Lyon again, movement on this front could be expected soon.
While it’s not entirely fair to judge him solely based on the tournament, Aouar was genuinely awful at the U21 EUROs this summer.
He can’t have any excuses though. He didn’t feature as much for Lyon last season, playing just 1940 mins and at 23, was one of the oldest players attending..
I’ve been quite vocal against Liverpool signing Aouar and I’m still yet to see any real reason for why the Reds should sign the Frenchman.
Transfermarkt values him at £37.8million but paying that would be awful business from Liverpool.
