Liverpool midfielder faces massive decision over future

Liverpool sit at the summit of the Premier League table at this stage of the season and are flying high. However, they have several top young talents who are away on loan and are working away to make sure that they eventually make it at Anfield.

Stefan Bajcetic is one of the players who came to the fore under previous manager Jurgen Klopp around 18 months back and really caught the eye of several observers with his performances.

However, the midfielder found himself on the wayside in the summer following a frustrating last season and was struggling to get chances even though Liverpool didn’t sign a midfielder.

A decision was made to loan him out to Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg who appointed former Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders as their new head coach.

Lijnders coached the midfielder at Liverpool and it was seen as a good move for the midfielder to go out somewhere, get more minutes and further develop.

The midfielder has been looking better this season but is now facing the prospect of making a key decision over his future in the coming days.

A temptation to switch nationalities

Bajcetic has represented Spain in the Under-18s and also made his Under-21 debut in September last year.

However, a difficult last season meant that the midfielder never returned to the Spain Under-21 squad since making his debut.

According to AS, Serbia are now lying in wait to convince the midfielder to switch nationalities.

While he was born in Vigo, the midfielder qualifies to play for Serbia and they are keen to make the most of this opportunity.

Spain are set to announce their Under-21 squad later today and if the midfielder’s name is missing, Serbia will make their move.

They will do everything possible to convince him that his international future lies with Serbia and not with Spain.

Bajcetic has always been keen to play for Spain and preferred to represent their Under-21s over Serbia.

He was born and brought up in Spain but a decision to play for Serbia would forever close the door on ever representing his motherland again.

Since Bajcetc has already played one official match for the Spain Under-21s, FIFA would only allow a one-time switch if he wants to wear the Serbia colours.
