Liverpool have reportedly slapped a surprise price tag on a midfielder, with an exit now on the cards, and fans aren’t sure what to make of it. The valuation has sparked debate online, with some calling it “smart business” and others worried the club could be trying to overreach.
The Merseyside giants have already spent more than £180m to sign Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez this summer, and have plans to fork out more funds before the end of the window.
However, their focus will be on sales in the coming weeks as the Reds look to raise funds and make space in their squad and wage bill for more new arrivals.
Liverpool have already agreed a deal worth £35m to sell Jarell Quansah, but their quoted price for the exit of a midfielder has shocked some of the suitors in the market.
Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?
Liverpool want £50m from a midfielder’s exit this summer

Harvey Elliott starred and scored twice for the England Under-21s as they beat their Dutch counterparts on Wednesday night to reach the final of the European Championship.
Journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed that Liverpool are likely to demand closer to £50m for the midfielder than the previously anticipated £40m figure.
The 22-year-old has indicated that he wants to leave the club this summer to play more football, but due to interest from several Premier League clubs, Liverpool are feeling emboldened to demand more money for his sale.
“I’ve been told Elliott’s asking price is closer to £50m than £40m at the moment”, Bailey told TBR Football.
“Liverpool got nearly £30m for [Fabio] Carvalho last summer and are asking for £30m for [Ben] Doak, so on that scale, you can see why they would be wanting well in excess of £40m for Elliott.
“But Liverpool are not in a hurry to sell at all, they know what a good player Elliott is and I think it’s more the player pushing to go in a World Cup year — if he goes somewhere and has a great year he could be in contention for England, stranger things have happened.
“Brighton have played down their interest; they’ve got a lot of options in those areas. But with Joao Pedro leaving, does that increase Elliott’s chances? I suspect it does.
“Elliott’s former club, Fulham, are also in the mix, and Newcastle are interested too; there are an awful lot of clubs who like him.”
Are Liverpool pricing him out of a move?
Elliott made just two starts in the Premier League and played a combined total of 360 minutes of league football in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign.
He wants to play more football, but Florian Wirtz’s high-profile arrival has pushed him further to the periphery of Arne Slot’s squad even before pre-season has started.
The midfielder wants to leave, and Liverpool are also open to offers, but a £50m valuation is going to deter several clubs in the Premier League.
He is rated highly in England, but for the moment, no club are expected to cough up the money Liverpool are demanding for Elliott.
A few of his suitors will likely wait for Liverpool to drop their price and try to sign him later in the transfer window.
