Liverpool have not had it easy with injuries this season, Arne Slot’s side have already lost some key players early into the campaign. The Reds have been without Alisson for the past few weeks, while Ryan Gravenberch is still struggling for fitness.
It has played a huge part in this current poor run from the team. Liverpool have lost five of their last six games in all competitions, including a shock defeat to Manchester United at Anfield.
This past weekend saw the Reds lose to Brentford; many fans thought the team would bounce back with the midweek win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Next for Arne Slot is a tough League Cup fixture against Crystal Palace who have already beaten the Reds this season.
Liverpool midfielder admits dealing with injuries for months
Liverpool had a big transfer window in the summer, making some huge additions to the team. But what went under the radar was some moves for young players at the club. Tyler Morton, Jarrell Quansah and Ben Doak got permanent moves away while Harvey Elliot and James McConnell sought loan deals.
Luca Stephenson also went out on loan to Dundee United where he spent last season on loan, but his stay was cut short after a double hernia surgery. Stephenson revealed that he carried the injury since October and that playing with it was painful:
“The running wasn’t so bad, it was more the ball striking; I couldn’t really kick the ball beyond five yards or 10 yards without getting a screaming pain in my groin to the abdomen area, which isn’t great as a footballer.” he told the Courier.
Stephenson is up and running this season with two goals and an assist on loan at the Scottish club so far.
Have injuries affected Arne Slot this season?
There might be problems on the pitch when it comes to Slot’s team selection and tactics, but injuries have not made it easy for Liverpool this season. Their best players from last year have not been able to consistently feature this year.
Ryan Gravenberch who was the key in midfield, has just nine games in all competitions this season. It also has not helped that new signings Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong have been struggling with knocks. Curtis Jones also recently picked up an injury. Hopefully, Arne Slot can make a few changes to put his side back on track for the rest of the campaign.
