Liverpool’s midfield target Amadou Onana has completed his switch to Merseyside from Lille in a five-year deal worth up to £33.5M.
Onana, 20, had attracted interest from some of Europe’s bigger clubs but has only just broke onto the scene last year.
Despite the £33M price tag – the midfielder is valued at just £9M and Everton have spent big on his potential.
Liverpool had targeted a midfielder and may live to regret that given the current injuries to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones.
Everton are now set to sign Amadou Onana, here we go! Full agreement with Lille and personal terms too – he wanted Everton despite West Ham proposal accepted. 🚨🔵 #EFC

Onana signs for Everton
Whilst Liverpool had previous links to the midfielder, the fee agreed around £33.5m was probably enough to put the Reds off.
Reports suggest that Everton and West Ham both tabled the same offer of £29m + the rest in add-ons.
The move was completed when Onana chose Everton over the Hammers – the potential of regular minutes as a starter under Frank Lampard perhaps swayed the Belgian’s thinking.
He totalled 41 games last season in what was his breakout season having moved from Hoffenheim after coming through the U17 and U19 teams as well as 26 games for Hamburger.

Liverpool’s midfield issues?
With the injuries to Chamberlain and Jones hitting Liverpool hard at the start of the season, it does reveal some potential cracks in the squad.
We also know Thiago and Naby Keita are susceptible to injuries which will see Jurgen Klopp rely more on the younger talents of Harvey Elliot and Fabio Carvalho throughout the season.
Fans may crave the likes of Jude Bellingham and Matheus Nunes to come in, it’s unlikely given the latest reports of Bellingham being the number one target for next season.
The Reds could be left short-changed over the course of the season in midfield, given the World Cup on the horizon as well, however, the Reds won’t be losing sleep over not paying £33m for Onana.
