Liverpool man set for a surprise Anfield exit

Arne Slot and his coaching staff have done a stellar job of delivering the Premier League title in their first season at Anfield. However, major changes are on the cards this summer, and there could be a major departure from Liverpool in the upcoming months.

Liverpool have equalled Manchester United’s haul of 20 top-flight titles, and are back on the perch of English football this season under the tutelage of Slot.

The Dutchman was not the most glamorous appointment when the club decided to bring him in as Jurgen Klopp’s successor last year, and there were question marks over his ability to perform at the top level.

However, Slot has done a remarkable job of proving his detractors wrong this season. But it has been claimed that he could lose one of his most trusted men in the near future.

Liverpool man linked with return to former club

Johnny Heitinga has been a major part of Slot’s backroom staff and is set to get a Premier League winners’ medal at the end of the season.

He worked under his former manager, David Moyes, at West Ham for a year after leaving Ajax under controversial circumstances in 2023.

The Dutchman coached Ajax’s academy teams before being made interim head coach of the first team in January 2023. He was in charge for 22 games from that point and had a points per game ratio of 2.05, winning 14 and losing five of his games in charge.

Dutch journalist Valentijn Driessen feels Heitinga is destined to return to Ajax at some point. But conceded Liverpool are unlikely to let him go anytime soon.

“With Heitinga, the former successful Feyenoord coach has included a true Ajax man in his staff at Liverpool”, he was quoted as saying by Ajax Showtime.

“The 41-year-old coach from Alphen aan den Rijn is destined to return to the Johan Cruijff ArenA one day, but as part of team Slot, Liverpool does not want to let him go for the time being.”
