During all the noise in the January transfer window, Liverpool have made a new addition to the squad.
The past week has been hectic for the Reds. Arne Slot took a bold decision to rest nine key players in the Champions League. Liverpool lost to PSV which ruined their 100% record, but they also made it to the knockout phase. Resting key players proved to be a masterstroke as Liverpool beat Bournemouth this weekend.
The Reds are one of the only top teams to win all three points at the Vitality stadium this season. Arne Slot is surpassing expectations, and Liverpool fans would hope they can end the season with a trophy. Mohamed Salah has made it his personal goal to win the Premier League:
“It feels good to be fair! Scoring goals, team winning, it’s an incredible feeling. But I said it many times before that my main target this season is to win the Premier League with the team. We are going in the right direction so hopefully we can keep going like this.”

Salah, Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been a major part of the team’s success this season. However, the trio are set to leave this summer when their contracts expire. Trent has been linked with Real Madrid, who made a bid during the winter transfer window. Liverpool also shut down any bids for Mohamed Salah from the Saudi Pro League.
Arne Slot has had to keep one eye on his squad, and the other on the future of the team. Liverpool plan to make heavy investment in the summer. But the reds may have saved a ton of money already. Slot has identified James McConnell as a key part of the squad, and regards the midfielder as part of the first team moving forward. Liverpool shelved plans for a loan move after McConnell’s performance against PSV in the Champions League.
Slot was pleased with what he saw on the night:
“At the moment we have most of our players fit, so we will have this discussion tomorrow, me and Richard [Hughes], about these players,”
“But there’s definitely one of them that will not go on loan, and I think you know which one I mean… James McConnell.”
James McConnell is the Reds’ next homegrown star
After Trent Alexander-Arnold broke onto the scene, the club have followed up with the likes of Conor Bradley and Jarrel Quansah. McConnell could be the latest first team star from the academy. Just as Trent’s emergence solved the club’s right back problems, Liverpool hope McConnell will do the same in midfield.
