Liverpool’s exceptional start to the season has allowed the team to hide some of the players who are still to hit form at the beginning of the campaign.
With 15 points from a possible 18, Liverpool are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table at this stage of the campaign.
Manchester City and Arsenal are expected to challenge for the Premier League title but the Reds are still not being considered as contenders in some corners.
Several of their players have made an exceptional start to the season and their performances have helped Arne Slot silence some of the doubters at the beginning of his managerial reign at Anfield.
However, there are a few players who are struggling to adapt to the new Reds boss and Dominik Szoboszlai is one such Liverpool star who has looked off-colour.
Slot has used the Hungarian midfielder in the number 10 role this season but he has registered just two assists in the Premier League and is yet to hit the back of the net in the league.
He looked disappointed when he was substituted in the second half by the Liverpool manager in their win over Wolves at the weekend.
Exceptional player but not yet the final product – Liverpool legend
John Aldridge has insisted that Szoboszlai has all the attributes to become a top player for Liverpool and still remains an exceptional talent.
However, he conceded that playing as the number 10 is not something that comes naturally to him and it is important that the coaching staff and the player find out what best suits him soon.
But he did stress that a midfielder ought to know how to play different roles and it shows that he still needs to learn a lot about the game before he can be termed the ‘final product’.
“Szoboszlai could be an exceptional player. He really could. He has everything in his locker to be a quality player in the modern game”, the Reds legend wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo.
“The number 10 role is perhaps not natural to him at the moment. But, for me, midfielders have to be capable in several different roles, and the best ones are able to do them all. Szoboszlai and Liverpool have to find out where best suits him.
“Szoboszlai is clearly a big talent and for good reason was he named the Hungary captain at such a young age. But he’s not the end product yet and has to realise he must keep on working at his game.
“You’re never too old to learn, believe me.”
