He told me – Arne Slot explains how Jurgen Klopp made his job easier at Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s start to his managerial reign at Anfield has managed to subside some of the fears the Reds fans were feeling when Jurgen Klopp left the club at the end of last season.

Klopp will go down as one of the greatest managers in the club’s history after he ended their 30-year wait for a Premier League title in 2020.

The German also won the Champions League once and domestic cups, which made him a cult figure at Anfield by the time he left the club at the end of last season.

Slot was appointed as the the German’s replacement and Liverpool are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table after winning five of their opening six Premier League games.

The current Liverpool boss has paid tribute to his predecessor and explained how the German made his job a bit easier since he didn’t have to think about a few things once he joined the club.

The Dutchman conceded that when taking over a new team managers often need to worry about the kind of culture they would be walking into at different clubs.

He stressed he didn’t need to think about it as Klopp made sure that he inherited a club and a squad of players who already had an elite culture and were already focused towards working hard and grafting for the team every day.

Slot revealed Klopp told him everything about the team and the club’s culture and he is happy that he inherited exactly what his predecessor talked about.

“The culture of this team, the culture of this club, the hard work, the players showing up every day in training sessions, trying to bring the best out of them”, the Dutchman told UEFA.

“Sometimes, if you come to a new club, you need to get that culture in, but that was absolutely not necessary over here.

“I inherited a lot of quality, but maybe even more importantly, I inherited a team, a club that was already fully focused on hard work and trying to get the best out of the team and individuals every single day.

“I wouldn’t say I was surprised by that, but it was nice to see that it was just like Jurgen told me, because he told me that that was the culture and I experienced this from the start.”
