Liverpool have “knocked on the door” of £42M winger whose contract expires in 2024

Nico Williams

Liverpool have knocked on the door of La Liga forward Nico Williams, according to reports, with Manchester United also interested.

The Reds have been sharp in the transfer window this summer, signing Darwin Nunez from Benfica, Fabio Carvalho from Fulham and Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen.

While Jurgen Klopp has lost Sadio Mane, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino, there is still huge excitement building ahead of the new Premier League season.

Liverpool linked with 2023 move to sign Nico Williams

According to Fichajes, clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing Nico Williams.

Williams has two years left on his contract with Athletic Bilbao and it will reportedly be very difficult to recruit him this summer.

The report states that Williams must choose between leaving Bilbao for another European team and staying at the La Liga outfit for the rest of his career.

Liverpool’s budget for this summer may be a bit limited after the Reds agree to a minimum of £61M upfront with add-ons potentially taking the deal with Benfica to £85M.

Liverpool need another forward but is Nico Williams the man for Jurgen Klopp?

Standing at 6ft1, Williams has all the tools necessary to become a very exciting player.

Last season, he played a total of 39 games for Bilbao, appearing for 1,521 minutes.

In all competitions, he scored just 3 goals with no assists. He’s the same age as new signing, Fabio Carvalho, who outperformed him by a huge margin last term.

The 19-year-old scored 11 goals and assisted 8 as Fulham sealed Premier League promotion in style.

Williams will not be a Liverpool player this summer and there have yet to be reliable reports suggesting a move to Anfield is realistic.

Klopp’s attacking options for the 2022/23 season

The coaching staff will be preparing for the new season without Sadio Mane, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino.

They have joined Bayern Munich, AC Milan and AS Monaco respectively.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have added Darwin Nunez to their starting XI while Carvalho will be an exciting squad option.

The Englishman can play in the front three but is better suited to playing just behind the attacking line.

I’m hoping Nunez and Carvalho can form a partnership the way the former Fulham star had an understanding with Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Serb sensationally scored 47 goals and got 7 assists last season in the Championship.
