Liverpool could cap off an incredible season in which they have exceeded expectations by challenging for a quadruple which could still come to fruition.
On Saturday, the Reds beat Chelsea on penalties for the second time this season to lift the FA Cup after they beat the Blues in a shootout earlier this season to lift the Carabao Cup.
Jurgen Klopp has already sealed a double for his side and will be hoping for Steven Gerrard to help him on the final day of the season to win the Premier League before Liverpool travel to Paris to take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
A quadruple is still possible even if it’s improbable at this point. The hope is what may be the nail in the coffin for supporters as they dream of Manchester City, one of the greatest Premier League sides, dropping points.
While fans’ focus is firmly on the historic possibilities at play for Liverpool, the club’s key men behind the scenes will be hard at work to ensure this season’s success continues next term.
The 2021/22 campaign started positively but injuries, Covid-19 and suspensions played a harmful role in the pre-Christmas run-in but the second half of the season has been incredible.
Signing Luis Diaz in January played an incredible part in ensuring the Reds have had so much to play for in 2022.
FSG and the likes of Klopp, Michael Edwards and Julian Ward may have noted how a signing like Diaz has propelled the side forward and could be set to make an even more emphatic signing, according to Santi Aouna.
The Foot Mercato journalist reports that Liverpool are the third club working hard to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer.
He co-signed an article recently claiming that the Reds are in the race to beat Real Madrid to another French signing in Aurelien Tchouameni.
PSG are still desperate to extend Mbappe’s contract while Madrid are still favourites to land the former AS Monaco star.
Yet, “a third club has not yet been ruled out” although Barcelona have been ruled out as being that side.
When asked for further information, Santi Aouna confirmed that the mystery club in question is indeed Liverpool.
L’Equipe also report that a third club has entered the race to sign Mbappe, with it “possibly being” Liverpool.
I’ll be the first to say that Mbappe moving to Anfield is very unlikely even if it would be the most incredible signing imaginable.
The Frenchman is obviously the most attractive attacking signing possible and that’s even with Erling Haaland set to join Manchester City in the summer.

Given how Liverpool and City and Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have gone head to head over the last four years, pitting the two most exciting forwards in Europe against each other over the next several seasons would take the rivalry to the next level.
Having said that, Madrid remain the strong favourites to land Mbappe although I must say him joining Liverpool would objectively be a more exciting decision.
