Liverpool interested in shock Mo Salah replacement

Liverpool are still pushing to convince Mohamed Salah to sign a new contract as their priority is to hold on to the winger beyond the end of the ongoing season. However, the club are also preparing for contingencies if they lose the Egyptian superstar on a free transfer next summer.

The Merseyside giants have been in talks with Salah’s representatives over a new deal and the club remain confident that an agreement will be reached upon.

Salah’s priority is to stay at Anfield over other options in Saudi Arabia and Europe but he wants Liverpool to respect his contributions by offering him a contract that adheres to his status in the squad.

The forward wants a three-year deal while Liverpool are keen to ensure that they do not get trapped in a long and expensive contract with an ageing player.

Liverpool are making progress in the negotiations but they are also mindful of making sure that they have alternative plans ready and the club are identifying potential replacements for him.

Barcelona are amongst the clubs interested in getting their hands on Salah if he leaves Liverpool on a free transfer at the end of the season.

According to a report in Spain cited by Football365, Liverpool could end up getting the Egyptian’s replacement for the Catalan giants.

The Merseyside giants have laid their eyes on Barcelona winger Raphinha as a potential replacement for Salah.

The Brazilian has been in electric form this season and has played a major part in Barcelona’s solid start to the campaign under new manager Hansi Flick.

He has netted 12 goals and registered ten assists across all competitions this season and is one of the most in-form wide players in the world at the moment.

Liverpool are prepared to make a move for the former Leeds United winger next summer if Salah decides to leave the club at the end of the season.

However, a move for Raphinha would be complicated as there is expected to be serious competition for his signature.

Arsenal also have their eyes on the Barcelona winger and are prepared to put down €90m to force Barcelona into selling him next summer.
