Liverpool interested in Premier League star

Arne Slot believes Liverpool has got pretty good backups for the regulars

Liverpool are expected to bring in a striker next summer with Darwin Nunez still struggling to become the elite-level forward that the Reds thought they signed in 2022.

Nunez played a key role in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Arsenal on Sunday, but it was only his second Premier League start this season, and Diogo Jota has been Arne Slot’s preferred option.

Liverpool could be in the market for several positions next summer due to the speculation about the futures of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.

But it is looking increasingly likely that the Reds will want a new striker next summer and the club are keeping tabs on several forwards who could fit Slot’s style of football.

Liverpool are keen to bring in someone with Premier League experience and it has been claimed that they have their eyes on a top-flight striker in England.

Liverpool set sights on Crystal Palace star

According to the Spanish outlet Fichajes, Jean-Philippe Mateta is seen as a good option by Liverpool as a potential recruit next summer.

Palace have struggled this season and the Frenchman has scored just three times last season but the Reds feel it is not a good reflection of his talent.

Mateta was in pristine form in the latter half of last season and became one of the most lethal strikers in the Premier League.

Can you name the club Liverpool signed these players from?

Liverpool feel his physical presence and Premier League experience will come in handy and he will be a great option to have in the squad next season.

The striker would be keen on the move as he wants to play for one of the big boys of the Premier League and a move to Liverpool would appeal to him.

How expensive will he be?

Mateta’s struggle this season could come as a blessing in disguise for some of his suitors as it has likely brought down his price.

At the end of the season, the striker would have cost a fortune given his goalscoring record but that is no longer the case, this term.

He will also have a year left on his contract in the summer and it could be the last chance for Palace to get a certain level of money for him.

Mateta is likely to be available for a reasonable price at the end of the season if the Reds make a move for him.
