Liverpool were again dependent on a late winner for the fourth time in a row to secure a win in the English Premier League this season.
The Reds faced Burnley on Sunday at Turf Moor as the Merseysiders were able to secure their fourth win in a row to stay atop the Premier League table, three points clear of second-placed Arsenal.
Arne Slot’s side has garnered 12 points while Mikel Arteta sits just below the Reds with nine points. After winning two matches, the Gunners’ only loss was at Anfield before the international break.
Dominik Szoboszlai was the star at home as the Hungarian footballer scored a beautiful free kick in the 83rd minute to seal the deal.
Turf Moor proved to be more stressful as Burnley’s low block was perfect, but a penalty in the 95th minute of the game was a treat to watch as Mohamed Salah won it for Liverpool in Lancashire.
Unfortunately for the Reds, Alexis Mac Allister suffered a hard tackle from Lesley Ugochukwu. It wasn’t a deal breaker for the Argentine, but Slot decided to call it a day for the World Cup winner, as risking it would mean problems on the UEFA Champions League night.
“I had already made one substitution in the first half, so if I then take him off at 60 minutes, that would be my second one. If I then want to make [another on] 75, then in the end I can do nothing anymore.”
“So, that combined with the fact that the tackle was a tackle he felt – and I am not surprised by the fact he felt that tackle, by the way – it was a combination of both. He said it was fine and good enough to go on, although he limped a lot.”

No post-match updates on Curtis Jones and Alexander Isak review

Surprisingly or unsurprisingly, Alexander Isak didn’t make the squad following Slot’s explanations regarding fitness issues. Not having had pre-season or training with Newcastle United meant Isak still lacks in terms of fitness when it comes to playing the 90.
“As everybody knew, he did not have any team training at Newcastle, then went to the national team and only played there for 15-20 minutes. We think, with a week when we played three games in seven days, this is the best lead-up for him to be available against Atletico Madrid.”
Curtis Jones wasn’t a hot topic of the discussion as Arne Slot had previously confirmed his unavailability, but the Englishman’s return remains uncertain.
