Liverpool identify Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement

Trent Alexander-Arnold has yet to sign a new contract and Liverpool are gradually reaching that stage where they are losing hope of holding on to the player at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old right-back has said nothing to assure Liverpool fans that he would be staying but there have been enough hints dropped to suggest that he could be on his way out.

Real Madrid are interested in snapping him up on a free transfer and have already offered him a mega-deal ahead of making a formal approach for the defender in January when he will be free to discuss a pre-contract with clubs outside England.

More and more voices are suggesting that Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid next summer is almost an inevitability and the focus is now turning on who Liverpool could sign to replace him.

Richard Hughes has his work cut out to sign a player who could be deemed good enough to replace Alexander-Arnold and it seems the club have a top target in mind.

Liverpool are presumably working on a shortlist of players who they could target if Alexander-Arnold does leave the club on a free transfer next summer.

According to the Daily Mail, the Reds have a player mind that they want above all if the right-back leaves at the end of the season.

It has been claimed that Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is the player Liverpool want to replace Alexander-Arnold with next summer.

The former Celtic star has impressed in Germany and was one of the architects of the Leverkusen side that lost just one game all year last season.

He has a £34.7m release clause in his contract and Liverpool are prepared to pay that fee to take him to Anfield at the end of the season.

Frimpong decided against leaving Leverkusen last summer but is almost certain to move on in 2025 with Xabi Alonso also expected to leave the club.

Liverpool are prepared to pounce and get their hands on him next summer as the replacement for Alexander-Arnold.
