Liverpool identify stunning transfer to replace star man

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has his hands full with regards to the contract talks with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. However, he is also tasked with the job of replacing any of these three players if they end up leaving Anfield on a free transfer next summer.

The Merseyside giants are pushing hard to convince the trio to sign new contracts and stay at Anfield beyond next summer. Van Dijk is closing in on penning a new deal but the club are nowhere close to agreements with either Salah or Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool are particularly worried about losing Alexander-Arnold who is wanted at Real Madrid. The defender has been offered a contract that would make him the best-paid player in the Premier League.

However, no agreement is still in place and Liverpool are growing wary of watching the right-back leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Hughes is prioritising holding on to the 26-year-old but work is underway to secure a replacement if the defender decides against signing a new contract and leaves for Real Madrid next summer.

It seems the Merseyside giants have identified the man they want to replace Alexander-Arnold if he moves on from Anfield.

Liverpool are aware that replacing Alexander-Arnold would be hard and that is why they are looking to shop at the top end of the market for a new right-back.

According to German daily Bild, Liverpool have identified Frimpong as the top target to replace Alexander-Arnold next season.

The former Celtic man was pivotal in Bayer Leverkusen winning the Bundesliga last season and is known for being an ultra-attacking full-back.

Arne Slot wants Frimpong if he loses Alexander-Arnold and the club are laying down the groundwork for an approach in the summer.

With Xabi Alonso expected to leave Leverkusen at the end of the season, the Dutch full-back is also expected to move on from the reigning German champions.

Liverpool are poised to make a move for Frimpong if they eventually lose Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid in the next summer transfer window.
