Liverpool have held conversations with the agent of AS Monaco star, Aurelien Tchouameni, but will need to pay the asking price set.
The 2021/22 season has been a bizarre one when you look back at it.
Before the New Year, Liverpool’s biggest issue was a lack of depth in midfield as injuries, Covid-19 and AFCON left Jurgen Klopp with very options to choose from at vital moments.
The 2-2 draw with Spurs in London was a perfect example of how Liverpool were badly affected as James Milner, Tyler Morton and Naby Keita were started together in midfield.
While it was a game ruined by awful refereeing decisions, it was the lack of depth in midfield that cost Liverpool as Thiago, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson were all unavailable.
Since then, things have improved dramatically and the Reds have been blessed with a fully fit squad in recent weeks, barring the odd minor injury here and there.
The difference having a well-stocked midfield, as well as the strongest attacking depth in the Premier League, has been tremendous.
Liverpool have were able to catch Manchester City in the title race, fighting back from 14 points behind to just 1.
Yet despite the recent improvements, signing a new midfielder this summer is vitally important and it would seem as though Liverpool are going for an incredibly exciting option in Aurelien Tchouameni.
The Frenchman was valued at €45million last summer but, according to Fabrizio Romano, that valuation “is no longer valid” and “a far higher offer will be needed to prise Tchouameni away” from Monaco.
The journalist reports: “Aurelien Tchouameni is certainly a player being monitored by Liverpool, who have had conversations with the agent of the Monaco midfielder.
“Real Madrid have been following Tchouameni for some time, and the Reds will face competition from other top clubs interested in the French international.”
