Liverpool want to sign £80m attacker – Agents given the “green light” to negotiate as star is “open to move”

Victor Osimhen

Liverpool are one of several clubs interested in signing Victor Osimhen this summer with the Nigerian open to leaving Napoli.

Since Luis Diaz arrived in January, Liverpool have been the side with the strongest depth in attacking positions.

Alongside the Colombian, the Reds are able to choose from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino.

Jurgen Klopp is truly blessed with an embarrassment of riches up front and yet there may be a new attacker set to arrive in the summer.

Origi is set to leave in the summer, however, and with AC Milan set to snap him up on a free transfer upon the expiry of his deal, Liverpool are likely to be in the market for a replacement.

All three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino are also out of contract next summer but they likely won’t need to be replaced this year.

According to the Mirror, Liverpool could sign Victor Osimhen and it has “emerged that the player is open to a move to the Premier League.”

The Merseysiders are likely to be turned off by his £80million price tag but if there is genuine interest from the Reds, I wouldn’t be shocked if they were able to negotiate that price down to a more acceptable value.

His agents have been “given the green light” to offer him around the Premier League and negotiate on his behalf but he only wants clubs that can offer Champions League football.

Victor Osimhen

The 23-year-old has scored 17 goals and assisted 6 in 29 appearances this season, emphasising his goal threat and how he could replace Origi at Liverpool.

While Osimhen is a fantastic player and I’m sure he would be a valuable asset to Klopp, Liverpool don’t need a player of his talent as their sixth choice in attack.

That said, while Origi may not be high up in the pecking order at Liverpool, as the only striker at the club with his size and profile, it will be important to sign someone similar so that Klopp has the option to change the game from the bench.

Jurgen Klopp and Divock Origi

Origi has proven to be a talismanic figure from the bench for Liverpool over the last few years but if he was replaced with a smaller, less physical forward, the Reds could suffer in games where they are being held.

Osimhen, coincidentally, is the same exact height as Origi and could provide a similar impact at the club although it’s unclear whether or not he’d be happy with the same bit-part squad role.
