Liverpool handed major boost in pursuit of Bundesliga star

Rafael Benítez opens up about Arne Slot

Liverpool have suffered a major blow ahead of the January transfer window as one of the key men in their recruitment team is set to depart the club ahead of the end of the year.

The club’s director of scouting and recruitment Dave Fallows is set to move on from Liverpool after a 12-year stint and it will be a major dent to their transfer plans.

However, Liverpool are moving swiftly to make sure that they have a man in place to replace Fallows when he moves on in the next couple of months.

According to the Anfield Watch, Liverpool have lined up Markus Pilawa to come in and replace the long-serving Fallows at the club once he leaves Anfield.

Pilawa is rated highly in Germany where he worked at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich and played a big role in identifying key players for both clubs.

His connections in Germany will likely hand Liverpool a major advantage in pursuit of players over their Premier League rivals in the upcoming years.

Liverpool to again edge in chase of Bundesliga star

During his time at Dortmund, Pilawa played a big role in getting Jude Bellingham who eventually moved to Real Madrid after rejecting interest from Liverpool.

However, the Reds have their eyes on another Dortmund player who was signed for the club by Pilawa in the last few years.

Liverpool are interested in Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, who was previously in the Manchester City academy but moved to Germany a few years back.

Pilawa played a key role in convincing the English winger to move to Dortmund to further aid his development.

He has a prior relationship with Gittens and his camp and this could come as a major advantage for Liverpool if he ends up replacing Fallows.

A big fee would be needed to snare him away from Dortmund

Dortmund are aware of the growing interest in Gittens and are not prepared to lose him without a fight.

He is still at the development stage of his career but Dortmund are prepared for any advances for him and have slapped a big asking price on him.

The German giants want a fee of €100m before they will agree to sell the winger in the near future.

More Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on the winger and Dortmund are keen to make sure that they get a premium price for him if Gittens moves on.
