Liverpool goalkeeper to miss October internationals following Selhurst Park blow

Alisson Becker is going to miss the October international break

Liverpool FC went into the international break with a win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. It was a narrow affair as The Reds won 1-0 in London.

However, things didn’t go as smoothly as Arne Slot would like. Two Liverpool players sustained varying injuries in the process of maintaining a top-table position.

Both Alisson Becker and Alexis Mac Allister fell victim to injuries at Selhurst Park. The Brazilian and Argentine international had hoped to represent their respective nations at the October international break.

Although, Alisson will have to step back from his duty. The Reds have reportedly informed that the goalkeeper won’t be making it to South America this international break.

This is a big hit for the Seleção as Alisson has been their most consistent goalkeeper for a few years now. Brazil will face Chile and Peru in the 2028 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

According to Globo, the Brazilian FA have called Weverton to replace the Liverpool keeper. Brazil’s medical team reportedly talked to Liverpool regarding the situation and the latter has seemingly cleared the air.

The final verdict is that Alisson won’t be playing for Brazil this October. Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson might also replace the Novo Hamburgo native but that decision remains unclear.

A bit hit for both Liverpool and Brazil

There have been no official confirmations from the medical team yet but Arne Slot’s post-match reaction didn’t look good. The Dutch manager seems ready for the worst as he claimed that Alisson might be out for weeks.

I don’t expect him to be in the team in the first game we play after. We have to wait and see, but it is going to take a few weeks I assume for him to be back.

Alisson Becker has probably been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in world football since his meteoric rise at Liverpool. As usual, the goalkeeper has started most of Liverpool’s games at 86% this season.

He has kept six clean sheets so far in eight appearances. One of the biggest strengths of the Brazilian is his all-roundedness as a goalkeeper.

Many modern-day keepers have an imbalance with a bigger emphasis on playing with their feet. This means that they spend less time goalkeeping.

However, Alisson has kept both aspects of his game in quite a balance. This skill has proved to be detrimental in the Brazilian’s career as he remains the first-choice keeper of possibly two of the best teams in world football right now.
