Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has several priorities to sort out but he is almost certain to try and sign a defensive midfielder in the upcoming transfer windows.

Joshua Kimmich was linked with a move to Liverpool last summer but he eventually decided to stay put at Bayern Munich.
However, his current deal expires at the end of the season and there is still no agreement over a new contract between the two sides.
Liverpool are still interested in the midfielder and according to German broadcaster Sky Deutschland, the talks over a new deal between Bayern Munich and Kimmich have not gone according to plan.
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has prioritised a new deal for Jamal Musiala as he is the future of the club but is also looking to bring down the wage bill of the squad.

Kimmich is one of the top earners in the squad with a €20m per year contract and is not interested in taking a significant pay cut.
The German giants do not want to offer a massive deal to the club captain and the negotiations have stalled between the two camps.
Kimmich has been a certain starter under Vincent Kompany and the Bayern Munich coach does not want to lose him at the end of the season.
The midfielder will be free to negotiate a pre-contract with his suitors, including Liverpool.
