Liverpool are focused on developing young talents as they seek to make sure that they have the structure in place to support to make sure that they are prepared to get into their first team.
While there are several young starlets in their academy teams, Liverpool have also sent out several players on loan to aid their development through regular football at the senior level.
The club are keen to loan out a few players in January with Tyler Morton linked with a loan move to Leeds United ahead of the winter transfer window.
However, one of the young starlets has been forced to return to Liverpool from a loan spell early after he picked up a serious injury recently.
Liverpool allowed Luke Chambers to join League One club Wigan Athletic and he was a certainty in the starting eleven until suffering a back injury.
Wigan have no idea when the Liverpool starlet will be back
The 20-year-old England youth international, who can play centre-back and left-back, was having a fruitful spell at Wigan but that has been cut short.
The defender is back in Liverpool to undergo treatment under the watchful eyes of his parent club’s medical team.
He is likely to be out for a substantial period and Wigan manager Shaun Maloney conceded that he is unsure whether the defender will return to the Latics.
“It’s a back injury, and it’s not positive,” Maloney told Latics TV.
“It’s going to be a fair period of time that we won’t have him. He’ll go back to Liverpool and they’ll take over his rehab and treatment.
“We got that news yesterday and it’s a blow for him and a blow for us. He goes back to Liverpool [Wednesday] and they will take over his rehab and see some specialists.
“It’s a shame. He was flying for us, and he has probably been one of our best players, so it is a bit of a blow.”
It’s a heartbreaking development for the young defender who started the season well at Wigan and was playing regular football in League One.
An injury at this stage of his career could derail his progress but Liverpool will hope to have him back on the pitch as soon as possible.
