Liverpool return with three points in the bag from Selhurst Park. An early strike from Diogo Jota proved to be the only goal of the match.
Although The Reds remain on top of the league, Federico Chiesa missed the clash following his absence against Bologna. The injury hasn’t been specified yet but it looked minor when the Champions League match went by.
Arne Slot confirmed that Chiesa hadn’t trained this week courtesy of his injury. The Italian forward was expected to return against Crystal Palace but he wasn’t even listed in the matchday squad.
There were talks of the player returning to training on Friday but he probably wasn’t present. Slot previously mentioned the 26-year-old was checking in every day to see if it was possible to train.
He didn’t train in the last days, he came in today to see if he could train.

A Genoa native, Chiesa rose to stardom after his exploits in the 2020 UEFA Euro where Italy won the competition. Federico’s contributions were detrimental to an all-star Italian squad.
A loan move to Juventus followed where he spent two seasons before making the deal final. He spent another two seasons with The Old Lady before moving to England.
Federico Chiesa’s journey with Liverpool

Federico Chiesa will have to step up despite setbacks
Chiesa arrived at Anfield just this transfer window. Having made only three appearances, the Italian international has already registered a goal contribution to his name.
His debut came against AC Milan in a UEFA Champions League match. The game ended with a 3-1 scoreline as The Reds snatched an away win at the San Siro.
The 26-year-old’s assist came in against West Ham United. It was an EFL Cup match where Chiesa assisted Diogo Jota’s equalizer as the game ended 5-1.
Before arriving at Liverpool, Chiesa grew unfit for Juventus’ tactical setup. After a season-ending injury against Roma in 2022, things went south for the Italian.
He suffered an ACL injury and he went nine months without playing competitive football. There was no resurgence as The Old Lady had moved in a different direction against the winger.
Liverpool used this to secure Chiesa for a cheap. He cost The Reds a measly £12.5 million which is quite less for a player of his calibre.
Federico is a high-potential backup for someone like Mohamed Salah. Although strained by injury, his talent still stands and can provide balance on the right wing.
The Italian can also possibly replace Salah after the Egyptian decides to leave or retire. That’s still a long road though and Chiesa will have to step up despite the setbacks.
