Diego Simeone clashed with a section of Liverpool fans during Atlético de Madrid’s outing at Anfield. The Spanish giants were there to play their first UEFA Champions League match for the season, which didn’t end well.
Liverpool won their first Champions League game of the season at home. The match finished in a narrow 3-2 win for the home side as opposition manager Simeone was sent off in the last minute of the game.
Virgil van Dijk scored the winner for the Reds during injury time. A corner from Dominik Szoboszlai was encountered directly by the Merseyside skipper as the ball went straight into the net.
Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone was furious. The anger didn’t just boil down to the situation, but also a section of the Anfield crowd.
The former Argentine international was found clashing with the crowd just after Van Dijk’s goal. The referee didn’t tolerate the behaviour and gave the manager a straight red following the incident.
Later, when asked about the situation in a post-match conference, the Argentine claimed that the fans had been troubling him for 90 minutes.
Simeone did accept that his actions were unjustified, but his tolerance had reached its peak following the late winner and fan abuse.
Liverpool Quiz: Can you name these 10 former Premier League players?
Jonathan Poulter is a former football bannee

The fan who seems to have flipped off Diego Simeone is a former bannee, according to Liverpool Echo. In the morning, Poulter posted a video talking about the incident.
“I think he’s a bit of a coward. There was nothing racist said by me or anyone else. There was never a mention of the Falklands War by me or anyone else.”
“But the fact that he’s been asked it and hasn’t answered the question, and has just got up and walked out, has left it open for speculation for the world. I’ve had messages on every platform asking what I said. I didn’t say nothing!”, Poulter said in the video.
Jonathen was banned from football for three years after an incident during Steven Gerrard’s last home game. He was found guilty of abusing a fellow fan and his disabled wife, who had been attending Liverpool games for years.
It might not be hard to believe Simeone’s claims following the information surfacing regarding Poulter. UEFA is looking into the case, and both Diego and the fan might face serious consequences following the incident.
