Liverpool have shifted of transfer focus looking at two defenders currently to help in bolstering their squad.
Post-Community Shield Concerns
Following their Community Shield performance against Crystal Palace, the need for defensive solidity has become apparent. With Arne Slot adopting a more attacking approach, ensuring the defence is capable of handling quick transitions is now a priority.
Marc Guehi Talks Underway
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Liverpool have opened discussions with Crystal Palace for England international Marc Guehi. The 24-year-old is seeking regular game time, especially with the World Cup next summer and new England boss Thomas Tuchel keeping a close eye on his selections. An offer has not been made yet for Marc Guehi but with the discussions between both sides, Liverpool does seem like his preferred destination.
Guehi is unlikely to renew his Palace contract, which expires in 2026, meaning he could leave for free if not sold before then. Newcastle United saw four bids rejected last summer, the highest being £65 million. Palace chairman Steve Parish has admitted a sale this summer is possible to avoid losing him for nothing.

Interest in Parma’s Giovanni Leoni
Liverpool are also tracking Parma’s young defensive talent Giovanni Leoni. He featured in seventeen league games last season and started fourteen. And under new young manager Carlos Cuesta, he could have more of a key role in the upcoming season at Parma. While convincing him to leave Serie A could prove challenging, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenburg reports that negotiations are already at an advanced stage for the talented defender.

Injury Concerns Fuel Urgency
The defensive push comes after Joe Gomez’s injury and the departure of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen, leaving gaps in Liverpool’s depth. Securing both Guehi and Leoni could be key to maintaining balance in Slot’s high-risk, attacking system.
