Liverpool defender seemingly “impressed” by Chelsea’s progress

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is impressed by Chelsea this season

Liverpool defender and captain Virgil van Dijk said that he is impressed by Chelsea and Enzo Maresca. The Dutch footballer thinks they’ll pose a good challenge to The Reds when they welcome the Londoners at Anfield tomorrow.

Chelsea have been quite unstable after the departure of Thomas Tuchel. Under Mauricio Pochettino, The Blues were very inconsistent which marked a point of transition for the club.

Pochettino came in with high expectations garnering prior success at rivals Tottenham Hotspur and PSG. Although there were highs, extreme lows followed adding to the club’s inconsistency.

Also, many key players couldn’t adapt to the Argentine’s ways. His relationships within the club were also discrepant with the players either loving or hating the manager.

The transfers were another problem at Chelsea as the management didn’t agree with what Pochettino wanted. This led to the further downfall of already difficult ties within the club’s hierarchy.

The ex-Tottenham manager was later sacked and was replaced by Enzo Maresca. With a new manager and transition in progress, many pundits expected Chelsea would continue their struggle this season.

However, Maresca has beaten all odds and is challenging for the top four. Chelsea stands sixth at the moment as Villa and Brighton have played one additional match after the return but The Blues are expected to stay consistent in their ambition to challenge for a Champions League spot.

I know that Anfield will be bouncing for the visit of Chelsea, and for sure we will look to draw on that noise and atmosphere as we go for all three points. We all have our part to play in what will be a very tough game.

I have been impressed by Chelsea’s progress this season. I said a few weeks ago, after our win at Wolverhampton Wanderers, that they have gone under the radar a little bit within the media, but we will certainly not be underestimating them.

Virgil van Dijk thinks that the home game against Chelsea is going to be tough. With Enzo Maresca on the sidelines, van Dijk expects a challenge worthy of the title contenders.

They also have a manager who has a clear idea of how he wants his team to play, and who looks like he is starting to get the best out of the talent at his disposal.
