Our View: Liverpool now have a free run at sensation they’ve had a bid rejected for

This week, Liverpool’s bid for Federico Chiesa was confirmed by Florian Plettenberg and after Chelsea also made an offer, it looks like the Blues are no longer interested.

Speaking to the LFC Transfer Room, Sport 1 journalist Florian Plettenberg said: “Liverpool and Chelsea made a bid for Federico Chiesa.

“Chelsea 100% bid €100million, I don’t know the amount that Liverpool bid. Juventus turned down the bids and Chiesa wants to stay at Juve.”

At the end of July, Repubblica reported that the Reds made what would be a club-record bid to sign Chiesa as well as the second-highest Premier League offer.

Now, Chelsea have reportedly made a huge bid worth the same amount to Inter Milan for Romelu Lukaku and it could give Liverpool a free run at Chiesa if they can convince Juve to part ways with the Italian.

The initial report from Repubblica did state that Juve consider Chiesa untouchable but as we have seen in the past, every player has his price and if FSG really did sanction a bid of €100m (£85m) for Chiesa, then it would be interesting to discover what price Juventus would sell the 23-year-old at.

I’ve read a lot of discussion and debate on Chiesa on Twitter among Liverpool fans and the consensus is that although he’s a great player, does he warrant such a massive bid?

He shone at the EUROs and he was great for Juventus this season but he didn’t break the 20 goal barrier even if he did get into double digits for both goals and assists.

But for Liverpool to break their club record paid for a player you would expect at least 20 goals per season at least in my opinion.

That said, Chiesa would be a dangerous player under Jurgen Klopp and I imagine his energetic syle of play would appeal to the German.

Even though Liverpool may well have a free run at the forward, if Juve refuse to sell, there is little they can do to change their mind.
