Liverpool could break 23-year run in the January transfer window as Manchester United grow nervous

Liverpool have grown confident following a good start to the season under new manager Arne Slot and they could back the Dutchman heavily to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window.

The Reds failed to sign their priority target Martin Zubimendi in the summer and the club decided against signing another defensive midfielder.

Ryan Gravenberch’s emergence in the deep midfield role has softened the blow and with five wins in their opening six games, the Reds are flying at the top of the Premier League table.

However, Liverpool are tracking several targets and Slot could receive considerable funds to strengthen the squad in the middle of the season.

According to Daily Mail, Liverpool could shock many by making a move to sign Everon defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the January transfer window.

Manchester United wary of interest from Liverpool in the Everton star

Branthwaite was one of the top targets for Manchester United but the Red Devils were not interested in meeting Everton’s £70m asking price.

Manchester United went on to sign other targets after Everton rejected their £50m bid for the defender.

The Premier League giants are keen to rekindle their interest in Branthwaite in the next summer transfer window.

However, he might not be at Everton by then as it has been claimed that Liverpool are now eyeing a move for him in the winter window.

Manchester United are not expected to sign one more centre-back in January after bringing in Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro in the summer.

This gives Liverpool a clear run at Branthwaite in Janaury and the club are considering making a move for the Englishman.

The Reds have not signed a player from Everton since January 2002 when they brought in Abel Xavier for £750,000.

The Merseyside giants could end a 23-year wait to sign a player from Everton this winter by trying to get their hands on Branthwaite.
