Liverpool are preparing to take on Champions League novices Bologna in a key European clash later this evening at Anfield.
The Reds have made a brilliant start to the season under Arne Slot by winning five of their opening six Premier League games and are sitting at the summit of the English top flight.
Liverpool also scored a big win over AC Milan in their opening Champions League game of the season a couple of weeks back and are set to host Bologna on Merseyside tonight.
Bologna played out a 0-0 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk in their Champions League opener and are set for the big challenge of taking on Liverpool under the bright lights of Anfield on Merseyside.
The Italian side are massive underdogs going into tonight’s game but Sam Beukema is looking forward to experiencing Anfield as a player.
Bologna star keen to experience magical Anfield against Liverpool
The Italian side have made a slow start to the season, winning just one of their opening six league games and are sitting 13th in Serie A standings.
Liverpool are at the other end of the form table but Beukema indicated that Bologna didn’t feel intimidated when they were drawn against the Reds.
He revealed that he did visit Anfield when he was a youngster at FC Twente and really enjoyed experiencing the atmosphere from the stands.
Beukema will now have to contend with the feeling of being an opposition player at Anfield but he is certain that he is going to have a ‘magical’ feeling regardless of the result.
“But when we got Liverpool at Anfield, we were all like, ‘This is going to be so cool!'”, he told Goal.
“I’ve only been there once before as a kid with [current Netherlands international] Tijjani Reijnders, as we were playing together in the Twente youth team at the time.
“The club brought the whole squad to a Europa League game against Zenit [in 2013] and Luis Suarez scored twice.
“Hearing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ before the game was so impressive and the atmosphere was amazing right until the end. It was a great experience, so going there now with Bologna is going to be magical no matter what happens.”
