Liverpool must pay €50m to sign lightning quick winger – talks have been held with his agent

French outlet Jeunes Footeux claims that Rennes could sell Jeremy Doku this summer and Liverpool can sign him for €50m (£42.7million).

Anfield Central was exclusively told by Sacha Tavolieri two weeks ago that the Reds aren’t currently planning a bid for the winger but that he ‘loves Liverpool and Liverpool loves him’.

The journalist told us that talks have been held with his agent but at the time, space needed to be made in order to sign a new attacker and since Xherdan Shaqiri has been sold, perhaps Liverpool could now make their move.

French outlet Jeunes Footeux claim that Rennes could sell Doku this month but a move to take him to Anfield will need to progress rapidly.

The transfer window slams shut at midnight on Tuesday evening and while it would be great to see Liverpool bring the Belgian winger in before then, it seems unlikely that it happens this late.

That said, a deal to sign Diogo Jota last summer didn’t happen until quite late in the window and it moved very quickly so if there is any chance for Jurgen Klopp to bring Doku in this month, Michael Edwards is going to need to get to work.

Jeunes Footeux claims that in order for Liverpool to sign Doku they must agree a €50million (£42.8m) fee with Rennes which sounds steep but the 19-year-old is tipped to go all the way to the top.

With Harvey Elliott set to play a role in midfield, signing a forward is a priority – or it should be. If Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah suffer a serious injury, Liverpool will suddenly lose a lot of speed in their attack.

While Diogo Jota can deputise on the left and Elliott can fill in on the right, the role that speed plays in Jurgen Klopp’s system cannot be understated and I think when Mo and Sadio go to AFCON, it’s going to become very apparent just how much it’s relied on.

Liverpool are rolling the dice by not adding to Ibrahima Konate in the transfer market this summer and while we have to trust that they are the experts, it’s worrying to think about what might happen if injuries strike key players.
