Ian Wright doesn’t think Chelsea can get away with playing £71million star against Liverpool for key reason

Ian Wright doesn’t think Chelsea can get away with playing Kai Havertz against Liverpool because the Blues can’t afford to “take liberties” as they could against Arsenal.

Thomas Tuchel played a 3-4-2-1 against the Gunners, dominating the away aside in what was a very comfortable debut for Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian scored on his first start since re-signing for Chelsea after they paid £97.5million to Inter Milan.

Facing Liverpool, with Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip reunited at the back, will be a massively different task for Chelsea, and Tuchel will know he can’t take chances.

Ian Wright believes this means that Kai Haverts should be the one to drop out.

Wright said on The Kelly & Wrighty Show: “They can’t play Havertz.

“They are not going to play like they played against Arsenal away from home because they could take liberties with Arsenal, because Arsenal’s lack of organisation, they won’t do this against Liverpool.”

I cannot wait. I’ll be the first to admit that I am sick and tired of all the transfers and the toxicity that comes along with it but now that it’s almost at an end, we can get back to the football.

Liverpool vs. Chelsea is one of the classic fixtures from the mid-2000s and while we don’t have Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard or Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba, we’ve got Virgil van Dijk and Thiago Silva and now Mohamed Salah and Romelu Lukaku to go head to head.

Only time will tell if it will return to a classic rivalry but hopefully, the Reds can come out on top.

The midfield battle will prove pivotal especially as that is where Tuchel’s system lives or dies.

Liverpool saw Jordan Henderson return to the engine room against Burnley as Fabinho spent time with his family due to the tragic passing of his father.

He has since returned to training and is likely to form a trio with the skipper and Naby Keita which has all the tools to help Liverpool beat Chelsea.
