Liverpool at huge disadvantage in Trent Alexander-Arnold saga

Liverpool’s worries about losing Trent Alexander-Arnold next summer continue to grow as the player has yet to provide any indication that he is prepared to sign a new contract with the club.

The soap opera surrounding Alexander-Arnold and his contract at Liverpool has continued to provide the background score for a Liverpool season that has been extremely positive on the pitch.

The Reds sit second in the Premier League table but the club are not looking forward to the prospect of watching the defender leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Real Madrid are lying in wait to sign him and while they will make an official approach in January, word is that the defender has already been offered a mega-deal by the European giants.

More and more voices are coming out and suggesting that it would be too hard for the player to turn down a move to Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.

Liverpool have not lost hope yet but the signs are not good if you are a Reds fan as it seems increasingly likely that Alexander-Arnold will move on at the end of the season.

The personal ambition of Trent Alexander-Arnold

Much has been made about Real Madrid’s grandeur and glamour but the defender has the burning ambition of reaching the top of the game as well.

Alexander-Arnold recently admitted that he wants to become the first right-back to win the Ballon d’Or and some conceded that to win that accolade, he needs to be at Real Madrid.

The club’s collective disappointment at Vinicius Junior not winning the Ballon d’Or this year showed how much the personal accolade means to Real Madrid.

The Independent pointed out that Alexander-Arnold has not won the Premier League or the Champions League since he turned 22 and he is now 26.

Can you name the club Liverpool signed these players from?

Liverpool are going through a transition period with the stalwarts of their successful era likely to be phased out over the next couple of seasons.

Arne Slot has shown early signs of promise as Liverpool manager but they are still not being considered as the top contenders to win the Premier League or the Champions League.

Alexander-Arnold is hugely ambitious and joining Real Madrid is likely to guarantee him then biggest trophies in his future.

Steve McManaman left Liverpool for Real Madrid when he was 26 and was part of two Champions League-winning teams at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Liverpool are keen to convince Alexander-Arnold that he can win everything he wants if he stays at Anfield but for the moment, Real Madrid are presenting the more compelling case.
