Liverpool have sealed an important contract renewal agreement to extend Joe Gomez’s terms beyond 2024.
The club confirmed the news on their official website, revealing an agreement that will keep him at the club until 2027 meaning Gomez will have been a Red for over a decade.
If he sees out the remainder of his career at Anfield, he will be eligible for a testimonial whenever he does leave.
Gomez contract signals a sign of faith from Klopp and FSG
For a player that has had so many serious injuries to be offered the chance to stay at Liverpool for over 10 years is a huge sign of faith.
Gomez has had his Liverpool career blighted by four serious, long-term injuries but he’s not injury prone – just unlucky.
Before his patellar tendon rupture in 2020, Gomez was regarded by Liverpool fans and others as the best defender available to Gareth Southgate.
Keeping him at Liverpool is important in spite of his lengthy layoffs.
Liverpool have the best centre-back depth in the world
There isn’t a single team on the planet that can boast four centre-backs with the quality that Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip and Gomez possess.
Gomez has it all. Strength, pace superior to most fullbacks, ball-playing ability. He does lack somewhat as far as aerial duels are concerned but it has to prove an issue.
