Jurgen Klopp will have an eye on ‘next Erling Haaland’ as Liverpool face RB Salzburg

Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool travel to Austria to face RB Salzburg in their second-to-last pre-season friendly.

The Reds have already travelled to Asia and Germany so far – recording wins over Crystal Palace and RB Leipzig.

Next up is another Red Bull club in Salzburg, a club with which Liverpool has done business with in the past.

However, Jurgen Klopp will surely have a close eye on the young forward being dubbed the ‘next Erling Haaland’ when the two teams meet.

Who is the ‘next Erling Haaland’?

RB Salzburg have a gem on their hands in Benjamin Šeško – the aforementioned forward with a resemblance to the Norweigian star.

Both have played for Salzburg and Šeško is also very similar physically to Haaland at six foot four and possesses great pace too.

The Slovenian is still only 19 and will likely have another full season developing in Austria, but the young forward is already turning heads.

Whilst Liverpool hasn’t been linked, the club has a great relationship with Red Bull-associated clubs having spent a combined £98m on the signings of Ibrahima Konate, Takumi Minamino and Naby Keita over the years.

One club that has been linked is Manchester United – who received a hilarious response from Salzburg’s Twitter account who showed just exactly what they thought of United’s approach.

After Fabrizio Romano had revealed United’s interest, the account was quick to respond asking for ‘£300m + Bruno’ in a brilliant Twitter exchange.

How good is Šeško?

The easy comparison is Haaland for Šeško, who is similar in build, physicality and style of play.

In fact he even commented on the comparisons when speaking to Goal: “Such comparisons [to Haaland] motivate me and give me energy,” the youngster told Goal. “They do not represent pressure. I will listen and learn so I can be even better than he is.

“My team-mates at the club tell me that Haaland and I are very similar, especially in terms of speed. Most of them even tell me that I’m better than him!”

It helps his cause that he has started the season in fine form, scoring two and assisting one goal in two games so far. Make sure to keep an eye on this exciting forward during the game and through the course of the season…
