Jurgen Klopp refuses to let star leave – unless it’s for big money

Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk, Thiago and Roberto Firmino

Liverpool have been subject to a bid from Juventus in recent days with the Italian club targeting Roberto Firmino.

The fan-favourite has been a constant in Jurgen Klopp’s team since the manager joined the club in 2015 but the Brazilian has now entered the final year of his deal which will need to be addressed soon.

Juventus have tried to tempt the Reds with a £20m (€23m) offer but it has since been rejected.

However, Klopp claims the Brazilian is not for sale unless a big money bid happens to come in.

Latest reports on Roberto Firmino

Currently, the Brazilian is enjoying the third stage of Liverpool’s international pre-season tour in Austria where the team is gearing up for a friendly against RB Salzburg.

According to the reliable Goal Brasil [via Sport Witness], Juve are still ‘monitoring’ Firmino this summer but Liverpool are unlikely to let him leave considering the sales of Sadio Mane, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino this summer.

Klopp is a huge fan of his player and has hailed the forward in the past for his role as the false nine in this side.

Despite starting just 10 Premier League games last season, Liverpool want to keep their man despite the £20m offer reportedly received.

Why Klopp should keep Firmino

As mentioned there have been some departures from the club this summer and with a hamstring injury suffered by Diogo Jota, it leaves Darwin Nunez and Firmino as the only central striking options.

Injuries happen throughout the season and especially during this year which has been virtually non-stop for the players; it’s key to keep an experienced and dependable forward around.

Firmino is the highest-scoring Brazilian in PL history and despite a low-key season last year – he still contributed with goals and assists and won possession in the attacking third more times per game (1.7) than any other forward in the Premier League last season. He’s still got plenty left to give.

His link-up play is still incredible whenever he does feature and if there are any dips in form of Nunez then Firmino is still the man to come and steady the ship to get the most out of Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz.
