Fans are patiently waiting for the Arthur Melo Liverpool debut and Jurgen Klopp has hinted that he could start tonight against Napoli.
The Reds have been downright shocking in the Premier League this season, falling off massively from the levels they displayed to finish on 92 points last season while reaching the Champions League and winning two domestic cups.
Klopp’s side is struggling massively in the Premier League but can use the Champions League as a way to reignite their season.
Fans want Arthur Melo Liverpool debut
The Brazilian sat out of the 0-0 against Everton despite being named on the bench but he could get his first minutes against Napoli tonight.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference at the Axa Training Centre, Klopp said that Arthur needs minutes before he is ready to start.
The German told the gathered reporters: “Arthur needs now just football – and training, especially, that’s how it is.
“He wasn’t in team training for a while at Juve, so he needs proper team training – and that’s what we are doing with him.
“Can he play minutes? Yes. Should he play a full game? No, because he needs to get used to the intensity in each competition.
“It’s not like in the Champions League you have to work less than in the Premier League. Not at all, especially not here.
“He is doing well, he is really giving his absolute all in training. We have to be careful with him as well and then we will see whether we can use him.”
Will Liverpool need Arthur to beat Napoli?
The Italian outfit presents a challenging first game of the European season especially as they have often proved capable of interrupting Liverpool’s flow.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson have also battled often due to how the Serie A side has doubled up on the fullbacks, pinning them back.
Hopefully, with Darwin Nunez down the middle, Liverpool can find an out ball and play a lot more direct than they have in the past.
Arthur might not be crucial to winning the game but if he’s introduced at the end, his press resistance and composure could be crucial to holding onto a narrow lead.
I expect Luis Diaz to shine as he was brilliant against Everton and was unfortunate not to score on a number of occasions.
