Forget Darwin Nunez, a new star is even more exciting: Jurgen Klopp finally has his Philippe Coutinho replacement

Darwin Nunez or Fabio Carvalho

Fabio Carvalho showcased his potential with a stunning cameo against RB Leipzig, assisting Darwin Nunez for his fourth goal of the game.

The Uruguayan shut his critics up with four fabulous goals to get his Liverpool account up and running.

It was a weight off his broad shoulders ahead of the new Premier League season as online critics jumped the gun with their undue criticism over the last couple of weeks.

Nunez missed a sitter against Manchester United and blanked against Crystal Palace but given he had to deal with blisters and a lack of fitness, his first 63 minutes for the Reds were never going to be life-changing.

But in 90 minutes against RB Leipzig, he scored four goals of varying types to really show what he is capable of and why FSG sanctioned £85M for his signature.

However, it’s Carvalho who has me the most excited about the new season.

I simply love a highly technical attacking midfielder and the former Fulham man is just that.

The 19-year-old can dribble, pass, shoot, improvise, defend.

He’s Klopp’s dream.

The way he received the ball from Curtis Jones on the halfway line before using his head to nod the ball past Amadou Haidara and drive towards the RB Leipzig defence before assisting Nunez was simply fantastic.

I’m going to try and refrain from comparing him to Philippe Coutinho as much as possible but’s really difficult when the similarities are so obvious.

He’s already shining in the same role that the Brazilian did in his final (and best) six months for Liverpool in 2018. Coutinho was a magician in that role and it’s arguable that Carvalho’s finishing is already at a similar level.

Coutinho was a master of scoring from outside the box but it seems that Carvalho has superior finishing inside the box just based on his last season with Fulham.

Jurgen Klopp is blessed with a wealth of attacking quality and now he has the goals from midfield that were lacking hugely last season.
