Journalist that broke Kostas Tsimikas transfer to Liverpool claims Jurgen Klopp will sign a midfielder this summer

Jurgen Klopp

The journalist who broke the news of the Kostas Tsimikas transfer has claimed Liverpool will sign a midfielder this summer.

The Reds may be forced into a new signing following a combination of poor results and injuries at the start of the new season.

Their joint-worst Premier League start was compounded by an injury to Naby Keita, as Liverpool look extremely short in midfield.

Now reports claim that Liverpool will indeed move for a midfielder in the closing stages of the window.

Klopp responded to claims over whether Naby Keita’s injury will change the club’s stance on signing a new midfielder: “It’s a little difficult [to answer]. I’m not really the right person to ask. As a manager, I’d like to have more players who are available [to play], naturally.”

Having been without Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, Thiago and now Keita – it makes sense for the Reds to move or someone in the market who can help steady the ship.

One player who could be an option is Brighton’s Moises Caicedo; the Ecuador international has started the season brilliantly and is a midfield destroyer and only 20 years of age.

According to reports, whilst Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked, it’s unlikely that Brighton would let go another key player – having lost Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma.

If Liverpool can only sign long-term target Jude Bellingham next summer, then they will have to move for someone within the next 10 days. Players such as Konrad Laimer of RB Leipzig stand out as a perfect stylistic fit and he is in the final year of his current deal.

Valued at £25.2M, the Austrian midfielder is a pressing master who is versatile across midfield and offers a threat going forward.

He has the same agent as former Red Sadio Mane and Kicker claims that Liverpool were among the clubs interested in the RB Leipzig midfielder.

Reportedly, Bjorn Bezemer (Laimer’s agent) has a strong relationship with Julian Ward, the Reds’ sporting director, which could see a potential deal struck.

The Reds have a strong relationship with the Red Bull clubs having done good business with them before and Klopp must look towards this marauding, energetic midfielder.
